Chief PJ Girvan

Chief P.J. Girvan began his law enforcement career with the City of Atlanta Police Department in 2011.  While with the City of Atlanta Police Department, he started in the Uniform Patrol Division. Next, he went to the City of Atlanta’s “APEX” unit, which focuses on violent street crimes involving guns and drugs.  Chief Girvan finished his APD career in the executive protection unit, working for the City of Atlanta’s Mayor.   Being a native of Forsyth County, Georgia; Chief Girvan made his way back to his roots working for the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.  He began his career with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office in the Uniformed Patrol Division, before making his way to the elite multijurisdictional narcotics unit; “JCAF”.   After serving with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, Chief Girvan was invited to join the City of Cumming Police Department.  Chief Girvan served in the Uniform Patrol Division before being promoted to detective and working in the Criminal Investigations Division; where he gained a vast array of experience working aggravated assaults, domestic violence, child abuse, child molestations, and complex fraud cases. After working in the Criminal Investigations Division, Chief Girvan was promoted to Sergeant where he supervised a team of Officers while in their day to day police operations, focusing on response to 911 calls.   In June of 2023 Chief Girvan was asked to serve as the City of Cumming’s Police Chief, where he is currently and proudly serving. Chief Girvan has the passion and skillset to take the City of Cumming Police Department to an unprecedented new level; he will put his focus into the needs of the community.
